What to Give

There are many ways to give to Washburn University.

All gifts may be designated for use by a particular program, school, or college within the university or may be unrestricted allowing the university to direct the funds to areas of need. Each gift can be tailored to accomplish your goals.

Gifts of Cash
The simplest method of giving is by a personal check made payable to the Washburn Endowment Association. Cash gifts can also be made by using your credit card or wire transfer.

Gifts of Securities (Stocks)
Gifts of appreciated stocks or bonds entitle a contributor to two income tax benefits: avoidance of capital gains, and the use of the securities fair market value on the date of the gift for the income tax charitable deduction.

Gifts of Real Estate

You may donate a residence, farmland, or other real estate to the Washburn Endowment Association. Gifts of real estate may offer considerable tax savings and the gift is immediately available to the university or you may wish to donate the property but retain use of it for your lifetime.

Gifts of Life Insurance
Individual life insurance policies, either new or no longer needed to protect family or business, may be transferred to the Washburn Endowment Association as owner and beneficiary to receive an income tax deduction or WEA may simply be named as a beneficiary of a policy.

Matching Gifts
Many corporations match their employees gifts to Washburn University with an equal or greater corporate contribution. Information on matching gifts is usually available through a company human resource department.

Gifts In Kind
Works of art, rare books, equipment and furnishings that further the mission of Washburn University may also be donated. The allowable deduction for a gift of such property depends upon its related use and appraised value.

Bequest
