Mayo M. Schmidt
Mayo M. Schmidt

The Oscar S. Stauffer Executive in Residence Program creates a dynamic opportunity for corporate executives to interact with Washburn University students and faculty, as well as Topeka business leaders. Honorees have demonstrated exemplary leadership as chairman of the board, chief executive officer or president of a major corporation. The 2008 Executive in Residence is Mayo M. Schmidt, President and Chief Executive Officer, as well as a Director of Viterra Inc., a globally focused agribusiness headquartered in Canada.

A native of Hays, Kansas, he earned his BBA from Washburn University in 1980, where he earned both athletic and academic scholarships. He is a generous contributor to Washburn, supporting the renovation of Moore Bowl, establishing a business scholarship and providing professional internship opportunities for Washburn students. Most recently, Mr. Schmidt helped fund the Mayo Schmidt Financial Laboratory in the Business Technology Center. He is an Alumni Fellow of the Washburn School of Business (2003).

Mr. Schmidt will be the featured speaker at a Student and Community Seminar at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 25, 2008 in the Henderson Learning Resources Center on the Washburn campus. The seminar is free and open to the public. He will also be the featured speaker at the Executive in Residence Honors Luncheon at 11:45 a.m. on Friday, September 26, 2008 in the Washburn Room, Memorial Union on the Washburn University campus.
